France all but ensured a pre-quarterfinals berth by
defeating Switzerland 5-2 in their Group E game at Arena Fonte Nova at
Salvador on Saturday.
The win extends France’s no-loss record against the Swiss to seven
games; the French had won three and drawn three before this game. Also,
France became the 5th team after Brazil, Germany, Italy and Argentina to
score 100 World Cup goals, and they celebrated the occasion by finding
the net five times against a side that just failed to keep pace with
them.
