Viru, Murali to lead MCC in Abu Dhabi next month

http://daily.bhaskar.com/article-dn/SPO-virender-sehwag-muttiah-muralitharan-to-lead-marylebone-cricket-club-mcc-in-abu--4528544-NOR.html
India’s Test discard Virender Sehwag and Sri Lanka’s legendary off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan will lead Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in its ceremonial cricket matches, scheduled toi be held in Abu Dhabi next month. While Sehwag will captain MCC in their four-day match against English champion county Durham, Murali will lead the MCC team in the preceding Emirates Twenty20 event.

Reacting to the development, Sehwag, known for his destructive batting, said he was honoured to be leading MCC in a match that acts as a ‘curtain-raiser’ to the forthcoming English season.
“I was delighted to be asked to play in this match, and being able to captain the MCC side makes it even more of a privilege,” said the 35-year-old, who has scored 8,586 runs at an average of nearly fifty with 23 hundreds in 104 Tests.

Minnows Ireland Shock World T20 Champions West Indies By 6 Wickets

http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/SPO-minnows-ireland-shock-world-t20-champions-west-indies-by-6-wickets-4527571-NOR.html
On the ground where an enterprising Ireland first shook the cricketing world from its complacent slumber, William Porterfield-led side downed World T20 champions by 6 wickets on Wednesday. The Caribbeans were rusty, but that should take nothing away from the minnows whose ability to punch above their weight is bound to make them a handful opposition in World T20, due next month.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first at Sabina Park, Kingston, the West Indies managed just 116 off their 20 overs. Though Dwayne Smith hit a six in each of Stirling's opening overs, the Caribbeans could never really get rid of the stifling Irish bowling.

Tim Murtagh removed Smith, caught in the deep hitting to leg, and Gayle then chipped Alex Cusack to long-on for a subdued 18 off 19 balls on his return from injury. That turned out to be the highest score of the innings, as Ireland kept a lid on the hosts for the duration.
At the halfway stage, West Indies were 58 for 2, and it got worse when George Dockrell had another big hitter, Marlon Samuels, stumped

India Versus New Zealand: Brendon McCullum, BJ Watling Ensure Big Lead For Kiwis

http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/SPO-india-versus-new-zealand-brendon-mccullum-bj-watling-ensure-big-lead-for-kiwis-4524391-NOR.html
There’s something about the underdogs; they are the manifestation of some of the choicest of oxymorons existing in English language- feeble yet fierce, pushy but occasional pushovers, egotists but self-suspecting, the underdogs form a universe of fantasy, the efficacy of which is subservient to none but its own levels of limitless eccentricity and boundless bounty of exuberance.

While India briefly paraded the ‘underdog’ tag in early 2000s – perhaps that’s the reason their march to Champions Trophy finals where they incidentally bumped into perennial holders of the tag, the New Zealand, remains a highly celebrated surge of sorts, or for that matter, their memorable peak in the 2003 World Cup makes for one of Indian cricket’s more retold folklore – the title of game’s eldest underdog would sit pretty with the Kiwis.
