Following last year’s IPL
spot-fixing saga, where the fixing and betting nexus was busted and
many bookies were arrested, punters have now come up with new ideas and
have started using technology to shield themselves.
And one particularly clever method, that is very popular with the bookies, is to use SIM cards registered in their own names.
Sources in Crime Branch say that punters are booked under the
sections of forgery and cheating of the IPC, relevant sections of
Prevention of Gambling Act and Information Technology Act.
